Birthday Present Brainstorm

One of my goals for this month is to send my friend a good birthday present.

Hmm...let me think. He's outdoorsy and likes hiking. Maybe I should give him the book I gave Matt a few years ago.

What else? Is there something I could make for him that would be useful? What about handmade stationary with stamped envelopes?

Or what about a cooking class at the Whole Foods in his town? They have "Lunch Express" classes. For $18, you get a cooking class and a scrumptious lunch. That might be fun.

Choices...choices.

  1. I'm an outdoorsy/environmentalist type and I love field guides of all kinds - trees, birds, grasses...you name it. Maybe he would enjoy something like that. I also like CDs of bird calls. Huge dork, I know! You could put together a fun "gift basket" of stuff like that and include a freeze dried backpacking meal.

  2. I like your book idea a lot, and the train mix/energy bar care package (don't forget the Chocolate Brownie Clif Bar ... mmmm)! Also, if he has/wants to hike the Appalachian Trail, he may be interested in a book called "A Walk in the Woods" by Bill Bryson. I love that book, it's funny, interesting, and inspiring, always makes me want to go back to the AT!

I promise I am open to feedback and truly appreciate hearing others' insights into my choices (it's like free therapy!), but please say it in the same way you would say it if we were sitting across from each other at brunch or next to each other on a park bench while our children play.
