Thinking about Getting Pregnant? Last Week to Register!

My Purposeful Conception: Preparing Your Mind, Body, and Life for Pregnancy e-course was dormant for a while as I figured out how to get back on my feet after giving birth to two children, building our dream house, and starting an organization and a school.

But then I got an e-mail from a reader asking if we could partner on the course to get it back out into the world. At the same time, I saw a conception book sitting on my colleague’s desk. It rekindled in me a strong passion for helping families intentionally prepare for conception. It is literally one of the biggest decisions we can make in life and yet our culture doesn’t support much intentional thought around preparing for conception.

I ended up partnering with Katey Zeh who is just amazing. She inspires me with the way she thinks about the world and acts in ways to make it better.

We are starting our next course on April 3. We would be so grateful if you could help us spread the word far and wide! If you can think of someone who might be interested, here’s a blurb you could copy, paste, and send to them:

Join Us for Purposeful Parenthood!

The Purposeful Parenthood course starts soon!

Are you striving to be the best possible parent that you can be? Would you benefit from asking and answering questions about what it means to be the kind of family you want to be while also practicing self-forgiveness and letting go of impossible and unhealthy expectations? Welcome to Purposeful Parenthood.

The Purposeful Parenthood Course is simply a space to step back from the day-to-day demands of parenting and reflect on the bigger questions of parenthood within a community of equally intentional and purposeful individuals.

Over the course of four weeks (starting February 6), we will explore four different themes: Vision, Space, Time, and Connection. At the start of the week, you will receive instructions about the Purposeful Parenthood Challenge for that week. For example, the challenge for the first week is to create a Family Mission Statement. The second week we will be selecting an area of our home to update in a family-friendly way. The third week we will be thinking about our ideal schedules and the kinds of rituals we want to incorporate into our lives. Finally, we will be focusing on our partnerships and how to strengthen them in ways that build a strong foundation for our families.

Each day, a new lesson will be uploaded that relates to completing the challenge for the week. Daily lessons include experiences like reflection prompts, templates to help you tease out your thoughts, inspiration, etc. You can connect with others in the online community forum on a daily basis for support, to share ideas, or to ask questions. The following Monday, we will share the results of our challenges from the previous week via the online community. On Tuesday, we will begin the process again for the new week's challenge.

The idea is simple: raising children is both an overwhelming joy and a life-changing commitment. When we approach parenting with purpose, we take steps toward reaching our fullest potential as a family.

As a participant in the course, you'll receive information, tips, reflection exercises and prompts, inspiration, and a community of like-minded kindred spirits who are on a journey similar to your own.

Interested in learning more? Visit the Course Overview or About the Author. Spaces are available on a first-come, first-served basis! The total cost is $99 USD. Register Now!

Our Goals as a Family

Recently, one of my friends linked to a reflection form on her Facebook page, and I love it. It comes from a blog called The Art of Simple.

But it made me start freaking out. How am I supposed to set my own intentions for the year and set some with my partner and set some as a family?

It's something I totally want to do, but I can't cram it all into my New Year Reflection Time. It's too overwhelming.

And then I was suddenly so grateful that I'll be working through a Purposeful Parenthood course with others to set intentions about what kind of families we want to be and which specific actions will get us to that end goal. We'll have plenty of time to think about this stuff! It's better for reflection and intention-setting to happen over an extended period of time anyway; most people don't even stick to their New Year's resolutions.

I did ask my family what our goals should be as a family this year over dinner one night, and this is what we came up with:
  • Take a road trip to Oklahoma to make some new friends (people I've "known" since I was blogging about my wedding so long ago).
  • Take a road trip to Dallas to see old friends.
  • Read 3 chapter books to Henry.
  • Henry wants to read all the BOB books.
  • We want to go camping.
  • We want to take more day trips to small TX towns on Saturdays.
  • We want to hang out at a creek in the summer (just like going to the beach).
  • Volunteer at least two times as a family.
Of course I have lots more to think about in terms of what kind of family we want to be (such as how to make sure my children are eating more healthy foods), but this list was a cute place to start!

Today is the first day of Purposeful Parenthood and the last day to register. We'd love to have you join us!

Join Us Now!

Friends! Purposeful Parenthood is about to start! The first course will start on Monday, January 11, 2016. Do you want to join us? You can register here.

I'm so eager to wrestle with important topics related to family within a community of like-minded individuals.

Over the course of four weeks, we will explore four different themes:
  1. Vision: Starting with the End in Mind
  2. Environment: Preparing Our Space
  3. Time: Life Rhythms
  4. Connection: Better Together
At the start of the week, you will receive instructions about the Purposeful Parenthood Challenge for that week. For example, the challenge for the first week is to create a Family Mission Statement. The second week we will be selecting an area of our home to update in a family-friendly way. Join Us!

We are getting ready to start the next round of Purposeful Conception: Preparing Your Mind, Body, and Life for Pregnancy on Monday!

Although I am on the other side of conception (I have a 15 month-old and a 3.5 year-old and my husband got a vasectomy), I still love talking about everything that surrounds conception, pregnancy, birth, and parenting.

Just yesterday, I was talking with a pregnant friend/colleague who was explaining that she doesn't feel like she's "supposed" to feel in terms of the proverbial "maternal instinct."

I connected with another friend/colleague last week who got accidentally pregnant and didn't know it until she had a miscarriage.

Last weekend I connected with an old friend who is 35 and gearing up to try and get pregnant (so I gave her my tips for when and how to have sex when you're trying to get pregnant--it's embarrassing to admit, but I love talking about cervical mucus because knowledge of it helped me get pregnant on the first try three times in a row!).

And today I am dropping off a meal for a friend who just had her second baby. So fun!

And selfishly, I want to work through the lessons in this course as a sort of "tune-up" for my life. I want to eat healthier, make time for exercise, drink enough water every day, think about my stress levels, reflect on my finances, examine my support network, etc. And talking about those kinds of changes and commitments is so much easier within a community of accountability.

Here is some feedback from former participants:
  • "I want to recommend the heck out of this!"
  • "I feel like I have a really solid reference point; all the journaling these activities inspired created a larger awareness for me of what we’re getting ourselves into. We both feel a lot more informed not only about some specifics of preparing for pregnancy, but also that we have a broader groundwork with which to do more research and a better understanding of what we think and feel about taking this step. I feel more careful about how I’m organizing my life, more intentional about my time and space; my husband has had a chance to work through many of his fears and is more eager than ever to start trying! I think previously I was ready just to dive in and figure it out as I went, now I am a lot more confident in my ability to handle this."
  • "To be honest, I was hesitant at first to spend the money on a class about preparing for conception (rather than saving it towards actually having a baby!). However, both my husband and I have benefited SO much from this; it's been worth EVERY penny and more. Truly. It's been fantastic and I'm so glad I 'splurged.'"
  • "This was an excellent course and a lot of thought, research, hard work, and love went into it - that is obvious. It was comforting to find a community of others who are really taking the time to plan for conception and parenthood, because I don't find that among my local community. Great job, Sara. Really and truly. This course was a big help to me and I will definitely recommend it to others!"
  • "I think that this course really shines in the lessons that require self-reflection. You brought up several issues that I hadn't really considered."
  • "Thanks to all the reflection, guided discussions, and useful advice from this course, [my] worry/fear has pretty much disappeared. My partner and I have figured out what 'ready' means to us, and it's not as hard as we thought it would be to get there. We have a short to-do list with achievable goals. I'm happy to be where I am right now in my life."
  • "Thanks for taking the time to put all of this information together and for sharing so much of yourself with us. I enjoyed the course."
  • "After working through the course I feel much more comfortable with the idea of having a child and much more prepared to expand my family."
  • "I was very ambivalent about having a child before taking this course. I now know that my husband and I are more prepared than I thought we were to have a child. For the areas in which we need some work, I now have concrete action steps to complete...It's wonderful to actually be excited about this next step instead of fearful or unsure."
  • "I have a long way to go, but I want to work on myself before having a baby. This course has helped me identify concrete areas that need work."

Enroll Now: Preparing Your Mind, Body, and Life for Pregnancy

I've been too busy to offer this course for the past year. Fortunately, my two-week Fall Break has opened up some time and space for me to prepare to offer it again. Even though Matt and I are not planning to have more children (Matt had a vasectomy to prevent any accidental pregnancies), I'm looking forward to participating. It's like a tune-up for my life.

Last week I heard from one of the participants from the very first class. She is now on Baby #3 and was asking for a copy of one of the worksheets from the course. I feel so fortunate to still be connected with such amazing women!

Here are the details:

For those of you who are thinking about conception or are actively trying, this online course might be for you! From October 20 through November 14, a new lesson will be uploaded each weekday. The lessons will address a comprehensive range of topics, such as preparing your body through solid nutrition and exercise, finding balance between what you can and cannot control, making space in your life for pregnancy, deciding whether to track your cycle, building a solid partnership as a foundation for your future family, and much, much more. As a participant in the course, you'll receive information, tips, reflection exercises and prompts, and a community of like-minded kindred spirits who are on a journey similar to your own.

The course doesn't presume that doing x, y, and z will lead to pregnancy. Instead, the idea is to focus on the things we can control in order to create a solid foundation (e.g., nutrition, stress levels, relationships, finances, etc.) and to make peace with the things we cannot control about the process.
I want to be upfront that I am not a healthcare professional. I simply spent a very long time researching and preparing myself for conception. This course is a compilation of all that information in one convenient and concise place--alongside information I did not find in any of the books.

Interested in learning more? Visit the Course Overview or About the Author. The total cost is $99 USD. Register Now! Or e-mail me with more questions. Happy Conceiving!

Register Now: Purposeful Conception Course

My part-time job has officially ended, which is such a weird feeling. I'm getting closer and closer to being able to focus full-time on my passion, which is to start Austin's first public Montessori school (and then a national network of public Montessori schools in diverse communities nationwide).

Even though I've done very real things toward that end (i.e., founded a 501(c)(3), recruited a board of directors, raised half a million dollars, put two pieces of land under contract for the future school, etc.), it still doesn't feel quite real.

With some extra time on my hands, I wanted to host a Purposeful Conception Course: Preparing Your Mind, Body, and Life for Pregnancy. I know all my "extra time" is going to evaporate as soon as Tate makes his grand appearance, but I actually think participating in the community will help make those long hours of breastfeeding go by a little faster! My mom got me a hands-free computer typing program for Christmas, so I'm hoping to be able to put it to good use.

Here are some thoughts from past participants:
  • "I want to recommend the heck out of this!"

Class Starts Today!

We turned in our charter application to the state of Texas on Thursday. Phew! I stayed up until 6am (and then slept until 7am) before running around all day (to tour a school, get checks cashed, get things notarized, make 1,716 pages of copies, and hand delivery the six copies to the state education office.

I've never stayed up that late to work on something in my life (even in college). The state revised the budget templates less than 72 hours before the application was due, so it prevented us from getting the application done as early as we would have liked. The final step--hand feeding each sheet through my printer to print page numbers on it--took forever, too.

Driving around town finalizing things in the final hour felt terrible. I felt like I was inviting the universe to knock me on my butt. I mean, I could have gotten in a car accident or a terrible traffic jam or Henry could have gotten sick at the same time Matt had an important meeting. One small thing could have derailed our entire year of work by preventing us from meeting the 5pm deadline.

I am so grateful that we were able to pull it off, even in the final hour. I find that my nightly gratitude practice of reviewing everything I'm grateful for has helped bring gratitude to the forefront of my mind at many other times during the day, too. In fact, several times this week, my gratitude for my life brought joyful tears to my eyes. I'm so thankful for a life partner that is willing to go above and beyond to support our family even more when I need to pull back and focus on something. Every night last week, for example, I cooked dinner and cleaned up as much as possible before Matt got home, we all ate dinner together, and then I retreated to the bedroom to work on the application while Matt took Henry and Hoss to the neighborhood farm, bathed Henry, read the bedtime stories, and then cleaned up after dinner.

I am also overwhelmed with gratitude for identifying a passion that makes me want to get out of bed in the morning. As soon as I turned the application in, I was most excited because it meant that I got to work on other things like facilities and teacher recruitment. Picking just one main passion was never easy for me. I remember various points along my journey where I had to make conscious decisions about which path to follow. I remember choosing to join Teach For America, knowing that it would put me on the education path rather than let me pursue my other interests in fighting for gay rights, promoting higher quality sexuality education among young adults, or starting a non-profit organization like the boy/girl scouts but for both girls and boys together.

I chose education knowing that those other interests would be woven into my work in education, but it was still hard to walk through one door and not others.

Anyway, this post was supposed to be about our most recent round of Purposeful Conception which starts today! The segue was supposed to be a story about how I turned in the application and then attended a conference for public Montessori educators in Texas. I connected with a friend in my old neighborhood in Houston who is actively trying to conceive. She explained that she and her partner waited until her short-term disability coverage kicked in (based on a conversation we had last year over dinner). I was giddy with the idea that a conversation we had meant that she would get part of her maternity leave subsidized (since I failed to learn that trick until it was too late). Then our conversation progressed to all of the nuances of conception, such as tracking cervical fluid. I explained that I never even knew what it was until I was past 30, since it just isn't something that's talked about in my family, circle of friends, etc.

And then I was thankful for the space created by Purposeful Conception to talk about all of these things--from the logistics to the deep, emotional considerations about our fears related to how our lives will change when we welcome new life into our families.

So, please join us if you're gearing up for conception! People always ask when they should take the course. I definitely recommend taking it earlier rather than later because some of the topics spark the motivation to change something big. You can register here.

Happy Monday!

Register Now: Purposeful Conception

With the charter application deadline on the immediate horizon (10 days!), I'm eager to gear up for another round of Purposeful Conception in March. I love having the daily community and conversation about healthy bodies, healthy minds, and healthy lives that nurture healthy babies. I honestly feel like I'm living my best life when I'm traveling the path of healthy living--physically, emotionally, and mentally--with other kindred spirits.

Here's some feedback from the last course:
In response to a question about whether her life will be different after taking the course, Sasha said: "YES! In so many powerful positive ways. This course forced me to considered scary unknowns and gave me permission to focus on the very important task of taking care of this baby-making-machine that is my body. The course also provided a TON of useful, practical information about pre-natal health, mental wellness and overall preparedness."

"You obviously POURED your heart and soul into creating this. Thank you for having the guts and motivation and foresight to create such an amazing resource. Your efforts have and will continue to go a long way toward making the world a better, happier place. The practicality, sensitivity to all walks of life, and sheer level of knowledge contained in the course is truly priceless. Thank you from the bottom of my heart."
For those of you who are thinking about conception or are actively trying, this online course might be for you! From March 3 through March 29, a new lesson will be uploaded each weekday. The lessons will address a comprehensive range of topics, such as preparing your body through solid nutrition and exercise, finding balance between what you can and cannot control, making space in your life for pregnancy, deciding whether to track your cycle, building a solid partnership as a foundation for your future family, and much, much more. Register Now: Purposeful Conception!

I've had two requests in the past two weeks to run another course about preparing your mind, body, and life for pregnancy, and that's enough motivation for me. I honestly feel like I'm living my best life when I'm traveling the path of healthy living--physically, emotionally, and mentally--with other kindred spirits.

Here's some feedback from the last course:
"This course has done just what I hoped it would do - give me and my husband a framework of questions, exercises, and preparations for us to consider before starting a family. As a result, preparing for conception seems less learn-as-you-go, and much more of an intentional journey. Having a plan to work from will be so reassuring!"

"For me, [the lessons] were all helpful. Mainly because they helped me examine where we are in our journey and see that we're already doing so much right. If I'd taken this course four years ago, my answers and responses would have been so much different and I would have seen how far we had to go before being ready. I hadn't realized how much we've grown and how much of it has happened organically as a result of our conception taking so long....I feel so much more confident that we are READY!"

"Thank you so much for putting together this course and for all the support."
For those of you who are thinking about conception or are actively trying, this online course is for you! From November 19 through December 14, a new lesson will be uploaded each weekday. The lessons will address a comprehensive range of topics, such as preparing your body through solid nutrition and exercise, finding balance between what you can and cannot control, making space in your life for pregnancy, deciding whether to track your cycle, building a solid partnership as a foundation for your future family, and much, much more. Last Chance: Register for Purposeful Conception

Matt and I might be getting close to trying to conceive again. Although I'm nervous about all the things that are out of my control, I'm working hard to stay optimistic and positive and to focus on the things that are within my control: religiously taking my prenatal vitamin, running three times a week, eating healthy foods, relaxing before bed, letting go of stress, detoxifying my environment, getting our finances in order so we can afford a second birth/child/maternity leave, and strengthening our partnership.

I just finished my first menstrual cycle since my miscarriage in July. I wanted to wait at least one full cycle to help my body get readjusted to its non-pregnancy state. This time period has been bittersweet. On the one hand, I still mourn the loss of our perfectly-timed second baby. On the other hand, I am thankful for this additional time to focus on getting a school started, strengthening my body with exercise, normalizing healthy eating habits, and having more time to save money for our house.

I'm eager to join another round of Purposeful Conception: Preparing Your Mind, Body, and Life for Pregnancy. If you're thinking about joining us, now's your last chance! The first lesson was posted today. I always tell folks that they should sign up for the course as early into their journey as possible. Sometimes the course generates next steps that can take a while to complete. For example, a friend from the November 2011 class just wrote in the group to let us know that the course inspired her partner to make a career change, so that he will be a happier and more fulfilled father and husband. No matter where you are in your own journey, feel free to join us!

And check out this article at Consumer Reports about the Top 10 Pregnancy Procedures to Reject When You're Expecting. I'm excited that the ideas that once seemed radical (in films like the Business of Being Born) are now becoming mainstream in the United States. It's about time!

Register Now: Purposeful Conception

I want to hurry and squeeze in another round of Purposeful Conception: Preparing Your Mind, Body, and Life for Pregnancy before Matt and I start trying to conceive again.

Because I have learned to recognize cervical mucous (thanks to Taking Charge of Your Fertility and Making Babies), I can tell that I'm ovulating right now. We decided to wait at least one cycle after my miscarriage to start trying again. Since my cycles tend to be long, I think the timing will be perfect to offer another course. I want to work through each lesson one more time before we try again.

The most recent course was a lot of fun, and the feedback warmed my heart. Here's a sampling:
"Sara, we want to thank you so much for undertaking the great task of assembling this class and drawing this fabulous group of people together. In addition to being informative and reassuring, your insights, questions, and good humor have become a touchstone that clarifies for us the adventure of starting a family, and helping us envision the many wonderful and challenging experiences that are in store. Having this touchstone has opened up conversations for us and added needed structure to the way we're approaching preconception and pregnancy. As you advised, we hope we can continue to stay as open to change as possible on our journey towards parenthood."

"I put a lot of effort into starting to wrestle with some new ideas about quitting my job and finding a place for myself that I enjoy and that fits into my overall goals as a future parent. The feedback from Sara and others was key to offering new ideas and the encouragement to follow through. I'm still hard at work exploring the ideas that arose, and I'm feeling excited about the direction of my life for the first time in a year or so."

"I now have a lovely to-do-list in my Google docs and I've already started checking things off! It feels really good to be approaching conception so deliberately. One day at a time, I am also making decisions to help me carve out some me-time in the evenings and thinking more practically about the changes that having a baby will bring to our lives."

"Sara, this was a wonderful course - thoughtfully put together and well written. You covered the topics in a sensitive but matter-of-fact manner, and really captured the full spectrum of issues that are important to consider when planning to start a family. I feel I would have overlooked a lot of the issues had you not given us 'permission' to really think them through..."

"Can you make one for every stage of life? :)"
I'm blushing. Thank you for letting me share those words with you!

I'm pretty sure Matt and I will stop after two kids, which makes me start to get nostalgic for this period of preparing for conception. This month may be my last chance to undergo the process of preparing my mind, body, and spirit to welcome a new life. If you'd like to join me, please sign up!

For those of you who are thinking about conception or are actively trying, this online course is for you! From September 16 through October 12, a new lesson will be uploaded each weekday.

Interested in learning more? Visit the Course Overview or About the Author. Spaces are available on a first-come, first-served basis. The total cost is $99 USD. Register Now! Or e-mail me with more questions. Happy Conceiving!

Enroll Now: Purposeful Conception Online Course!

I'm hoping that the worst of my miscarriage is over. I woke up yesterday morning, and Matt and I decided to get out of the house with Henry. His parents' housekeepers were going to be in the house for several hours, and we didn't want to get in their way. I was sitting on the porch with Henry while we were getting ready to go, and I felt a sudden gush of warm blood. I ran to the restroom. Afterwards, I suggested that we go get a really good breakfast, so I could nourish my body.

On the car ride there, I could feel more blood gushing. I'll spare you all the details, but I will say I had to go the restroom many times during breakfast, and at one point I even got a little blood on the floor (which I cleaned up). I probably would have freaked out about the amount of blood, except that I had watched The Help the day before, and there was a scene involving a normal miscarriage with a lot of blood.

I asked Matt to rush me home, and I spent about 45 minutes just sitting on the toilet (I'm sorry this post is getting so graphic). I passed a lot of tissue, and the cramping started to get uncomfortable. In total, I suppose the intense parts lasted a couple hours. After that, my bleeding slowed to a medium flow. I spent the day watching On Demand movies on the comfortable couch.

I still have sad moments, and I cry when I need to, but I am also eager to move forward. I'm excited to work through the next Purposeful Conception course with a community of kindred spirits who are working through their own journeys. I want to get my body, mind, and life back into a place where I feel ready to nurture a new life again.

For those of you who are thinking about conception or are actively trying, this online course will help you position your mind, body, and life for pregnancy. From July 30 through August 24, a new lesson will be uploaded each weekday. The lessons will address a comprehensive range of topics, such as preparing your body through solid nutrition and exercise, finding balance between what you can and cannot control, making space in your life for pregnancy, deciding whether to track your cycle, building a solid partnership as a foundation for your future family, and much, much more. Register Now! Purposeful Conception E-Course

Registration is now open for the next (and probably last) Purposeful Conception Course: Preparing Your Mind, Body, and Life for Pregnancy!

As I mentioned in this post, Matt and I are trying to figure out when/if we want to have another child. I'm in a place where I think I'll regret it in twenty years if we only nurtured one little soul into the world and now feels like the best time career-wise, but it's not a decision I can make on my own.

That's why I'm so excited about this next round of Purposeful Conception! I'm eager to work through the course with Matt. A) It will help me get my body and my life ready for conception in case we decide to start trying. B) It will help us work through all the emotional issues surrounding conception and pregnancy.

I'm looking forward to the renewal and focus that can come from working through a course with other kindred spirits. This course will probably be the last round I run for a while, since I am trying to make space in my own life to give birth to a school, a community, and perhaps another child.

Here's some of the feedback from the last course:
"My husband and I are rarely practical and simply enrolling in this course has allowed us to prepare for conception in a way that is well-rounded, but not overly, well, overwhelming! If left to my own devices to study from various sources, I would have put it off, and then been overwhelmed by all of the different information from different places! This way, we've done our 'homework' but in a way that works well with our personalities!"--Sarah
And here's what Kyla had to say:
"What I learned most from this course is that I'm more prepared for conception and parenthood than I thought I was. It's nice to have that reassurance. Thank you for putting in the time and effort to do all of this research and synthesizing the information for us!"

I did get some pretty harsh criticism that the course was part of the Baby Industrial Complex, trying to guilt people into spending more money to feel prepared for conception. That comment definitely hurt my feelings because I am so anti-industrial complexes (like the Wedding Industrial Complex!) and I would never want people to feel pressured in any way, shape, or form to spend money on something out of guilt. The course is designed to be a well-rounded compendium of how to prepare your mind, body, and life for conception. It includes lots of information that is already out there (such as the information related to nutrition, exercise, etc.) in an attempt to cover all the bases, but it includes lots of information that I never came across during my conception research (mainly related to truly preparing your life and your partnership for pregnancy and doing the emotional work it takes to get yourself in the right place to enter parenthood).

So for those of you who want to join what will probably the last class, a new lesson will be uploaded each weekday from May 7 through June 1. The lessons will address a comprehensive range of topics, such as preparing your body through solid nutrition and exercise, finding balance between what you can and cannot control, making space in your life for pregnancy, deciding whether to track your cycle, building a solid partnership as a foundation for your future family, and much, much more. As a participant in the course, you'll receive information, tips, reflection exercises and prompts, access to interviews, and a community of like-minded kindred spirits who are on a journey similar to your own.

The course doesn't presume that doing x, y, and z will lead to pregnancy. Instead, the idea is to focus on the things we can control in order to create a solid foundation (e.g., nutrition, stress levels, relationships, finances, etc.) and to make peace with the things we cannot control about the process.

Interested in learning more? Visit the Course Overview or About the Author. Spaces are available on a first-come, first-served basis and will be limited to the first 100 participants. The total cost is $99 USD. Register Now! Or e-mail me with more questions. Happy Conceiving!

Register Now! Purposeful Conception E-Course

Yippee! I'm delighted to announce that registration is now open for the next Purposeful Conception course, starting on January 15. I love the January course because this time of year is such fertile ground for reflection and intention. This course is an excellent way to help you take stock of your mind, body, and life, identify next steps, and continue to help your fullest potential reveal itself.

The course will start on January 15 and last until February 10. You will still be able to access the course materials for two weeks after the end date, so don't worry if you have a conflict during the class.

Please feel free to e-mail me if you have personal questions about your situation and whether or not the course would be useful to you.

I created this course more than a year ago, and now Henry is a chubby ten month-old with almost six teeth. I can't believe it! And I love that so many former Purposeful Conception participants have welcomed their own babies into their homes. Every day, I am so, so thankful for a healthy conception, pregnancy, and birth. There's so much uncertainty in the process; there's so much that can go wrong at any turn. The best we can do is put our focus, energy, and time toward the aspects of the process that we can control. It's not about being excessive planners trying to control everything about our lives. It's about acknowledging that raising a child is one of life's most significant undertakings, and it deserves our attention, thought, and mindfulness. When we approach conception in this way, we set ourselves up to approach pregnancy and then parenthood with the same thoughtfulness.

So exciting!

For more information, you can read the general description, the course overview, or the about the author page.

Hope to see you there!

Preparing for Pregnancy

No, I'm not preparing for pregnancy yet. My plan is to give birth to a school and a community and then see how we feel about having another child.

But I am eager to participate in the final Purposeful Conception course of the year. I was at my healthiest when I was preparing for conception in the eight months before Matt and I started trying. I'm eager to prioritize myself again.

I got negative feedback about the fact that I didn't contribute much in the community area during the last course, so I'm looking forward to participating frequently this time around.

I'd love it if you could join us! See more details below...

Are you thinking about getting pregnant or are you already actively trying? Welcome to Purposeful Conception! This course is for all of us.

The idea is simple: bringing a baby into the world is both an overwhelming joy and a life-changing commitment. When we approach conception with intention and purpose, we create a welcoming and prepared space for children in our lives. Many of us spend months or years planning our weddings and/or working to advance our careers. Why not also devote time toward preparing to bring a child into the world?

This online course will help us position our minds, bodies, and lives for pregnancy. Over the course of four weeks, a new lesson will be uploaded each weekday. The lessons will address a whole host of topics, such as preparing your body through solid nutrition and exercise, finding balance between what you can and cannot control, making space in your life for pregnancy, deciding whether to track your cycle, building a solid partnership as a foundation for your future family, and much, much more. As a participant in the course, you'll receive information, tips, reflection exercises and prompts, and a community of like-minded kindred spirits who are on a journey similar to your own.

Register Now! Purposeful Conception E-Course

Registration is now open for the next Purposeful Conception Course: Preparing Your Mind, Body, and Life for Pregnancy!

It's been more than a year since I hunkered down to consolidate everything I read, researched, discussed with experts, and worked through emotionally to prepare myself for conception into an e-course with an accompanying community. It's so rewarding to still be in contact with people from the very first course last August who have now welcomed precious babies into their lives.

And our little Henry is already not-so-little, and he has two teeth. Teeth! Craziness.

For those of you who are thinking about conception or are actively trying, this online course will help you position your mind, body, and life for pregnancy. From September 4 through September 30, a new lesson will be uploaded each weekday.
