Halloween Costume

2004 Super-Ego

2006 Rainbow Brite

2007 A Picnic

2008 Scrabble

Last year I got terribly behind with my holidays. The fall holidays seem to come so fast. First it's Halloween and then there's Matt's birthday to prepare for and then Thanksgiving is here and once Thanksgiving has passed, there's no time to prepare for a handmade Christmas. This year, I want to slow down, undertake fun projects, and fully savor each holiday.

So, I hope you can understand why it's August and I'm already talking about Halloween. Plus, I need your creative help!

Since this will be my first (and perhaps only) Halloween as a round, pregnant person (I'll be approximately 6 months pregnant), I have to take full advantage of the opportunity.

Here's what I have so far:
  1. A beach ball: This costume would be really easy. I would simply paint a t-shirt to look like a beach ball.
  2. A crystal ball reader: My belly would be the crystal ball, and I could pass out little fortunes that read, "Baby says..."

That's it! Please chime in with your ideas!

I LOVE the originality of a crystal ball! Mostly I've seen pumpkins.

A person carrying a watermelon? I think I like the crystal ball idea the best though. Anything that can end up being interactive is aces in my book!

I like the fortune teller idea. Along the same lines, you could be a fish bowl or gumball machine. If you were a gumball machines you could hand out gumballs.

I love the cat fish bowl idea. Especially if you do it Dr. Seuss style.

How did you make your Scrabble costume? It's awesome. I may want to steal it for this Halloween.

My brother and sister-in-law had a funny costume the year she was pregnant. She dressed up as an angel and her husband was the devil. She had a sign that read, "The devil made me do it!" and on her exposed belly we drew horns and wrote, "Little Devil." It was cute!

I like the crystal ball idea, then you can use moon/star dress as "table cloth" and a silver turban?

Thanks for your ideas! I am seriously considering the gum ball machine idea...Maybe I could be a gumball machine at school and a crystal ball reader at night.

@ sarahdipity: I made the Scrabble costume by quilting together fabric and then using the fabric to make a simple dress. Then I wrote "double word score," etc. on the squares. I made the tile letters by using model wood and painting letters on it. Hope that clarifies it!

You mentioned a hand-made christmas... I am just dying to find out what youre planning. We are trying to do the same thing... and break it to our families that we also don't want to recieve material gifts...just enjoy each other. It will be tricky! All we have come up with is homemade jalepeno/raspberry jam...last year we made glasses out of wine bottles. That was a blast. Any fun ideas?!
