Holiday Ideas
The most recent issue of Better Homes & Gardens had two brilliant holiday ideas.
- You can cut an inch off the bottom of your Christmas tree (which helps with absorption anyway) and use a marker or pen to write your names and the year. You can attach a piece of ribbon and create an ornament to commemorate every Christmas together.
- You can make a tabletop Christmas tree by poking sticks into foam in a planter, covering the foam with moss, and decorating the tree with small ornaments, pine cones, etc.
You could also make your own advent calendar, using these tutorials from Oh, Happy Day!
We've got our holiday countdown calendar hung to inspire us to slow down and focus on the season. Good times!

I'm a totally loving these ideas, thanks for sharing! We always had an Easter tree growing up (same as the 2nd idea except branches were painted white).
Tiny place + curious walker = no real tree for us this year. We were thinking a rosemary "tree" but I'm liking the stick idea even better!
Hi, Catoctin Mountain Mama! I hear you on the tiny place + curious [in our case] crawler. We got a potted tree and put it on the table, but I have to move it outside every time a realtor wants to show our house to potential buyers (were trying to make it as de-cluttered and open as possible!). By the way, I love your most recent post. It gave me the idea that I should give one of those gifts to Henry every year (when he gets a little older). Thanks!
I pulled that tree-trunk-ornament idea too! There's so many amazing crafty holiday ideas out there blowing my mind!
I think my favorite kid-related advent idea is wrapping up books and unwrapping and reading one each day. :)
