Natural Deodorant Recommendation
One of the recent Purposeful Conception topics--Detoxifying Our Lives--inspired me to once again focus on natural beauty products. I was doing well a while ago, but my deodorant stopped working (so I switched back to my go-to antiperspirant with aluminum in it), and we ran out of shampoo (so I just grabbed some Burt's Bees stuff off the shelf at the grocery store and later realized it's not actually very good for me, according to the Skin Deep database).
I worry a lot about antiperspirant with aluminum in it because of the links to Alzheimer's. I'm frustrated, though, because I sweat a lot and every natural deodorant I've ever tried has failed me. Then my friend recommended this product off Etsy. I think she's on to something! I've only used it for a few days, and so far, it's working well. It's easy to apply (not as easy as a stick, but still pretty easy), and I think it does absorb moisture. It's expensive, but it seems like a little goes a long way.

I'd love to try this! I haven't heard about the aluminum-Alzheimer's link, scary!
Sounds like you've found something you're happy with, but this might be worth a try as a cheaper alternative. i've been making it for a couple of years now and I really like it!

Thanks for the link to Skin Deep! I hadn't heard of it before.
I love Tate's products. One of the great things about Tate's is that most of their products have multiple uses. For example, I use the Shampoo and Conditioner to wash and moisturize my face. Their limp balm is the BEST! I noticed that their products are a bit less expensive at my local health food store than on their website. Here's a link if you'd like to check it out... http://www.ourtatefamily.com/
Burt's Bees is now owned by Clorox. Sad but true.
My husband and I LOVE Aubrey's Men Stock (they make one for Ladies too, but I prefer the "Mens" scent) Natural Dry Herbal Pine Deodorant. It's the best natural deodorant we've ever used (maybe the best deodorant I've ever used)-- some of the ones we've used in the past actually make me feel more stinky! It smells woodsy and a little like Christmas, it's a little under $8 at our grocery store but since it's a spray my husband and I use the same bottle and it last us a few months.
(Just adding to the recommendations)
By the way, I'd love a pregnancy update-- I'm due the week after you and have been following your blog since my husband and I started to try to conceive. It made me so happy to hear you're pregnant too! This is my first pregnancy and boy have I already learned alot (morning sickness my foot, try all day sickness!)
I've had success using magnesium oil as a spray on my body a few times a day to keep body odor down.

I also use apple cider vinegar on my armpits after a shower and then on non shower days use a baking soda/coconut oil homemade deodorant. Before the magnesium oil, I could never use anything but antiperspirant.
Have you ever used Kiss My Face Liquid Rock? I love it, works really well for me and my husband, even on hot days.
Thanks for this tip! I just ordered some. All the deodorant reviews (and even friend's tips) all recommended Tom's of Maine, which never works well enough for me if I'm teaching yoga or just being outside at all during the summer. I'm looking forward to trying this!

If you've found something that works you might not be inclined to change but I've had success with a bit of dampened baking soda. Cheap and easy, and no scary aluminum if you buy the right stuff!
Just wanted to follow up - this came so quickly and it's truly amazing. Baking soda never worked for me (I use it for shampoo, face scrub, cleaning, and the occasional deep tooth scrub, so I'm a firm believer in the stuff, just didn't work for deodorant for me).
But this stuff rocks! Seriously no stink and no wetness - even after a dance class, two yoga classes, and an hour long walk in the Texas heat. I mean, what more can you ask? Plus I really like the smell.
Thanks so much for the recommendation!
I know, Kelly! I think it's awesome, too. It doesn't prevent wetness as well as my antiperspirant did, but I still really like it and plan to continue using it.
