Henry Feeding the Dog: 16 Months
I promised one of Henry's great-grandmothers that I would send along a video of him feeding Hoss. I thought I should share it in this space, too.
I'm so thankful I found the Montessori approach to parenting and education. It makes so much sense to me. I can see Henry's confidence and sense of self growing every single day.
And did you see Meg's mention of our little book over at Sew Liberated? I'm tickled pink by her kind words. I'm a huge fan of hers.

ZOMG that's adorable
what she^ said!
too adorable! he looks so proud of himself :)
That's awesome! Does he just do it because he likes to, because you ask him to, or because he knows it's expected?
Hi, StrivingSimply: I imagine he does it for all of those reasons. Sometimes I ask him to do it, and he's distracted by something else and doesn't want to. We don't make him do it at this age. But mostly he chooses to do it. We ask him to do all sorts of things: throw things away, put the dog leash away, put his shoes in his bag for school, put his used diapers in the pail--he seems very happy to do these things. He sees us doing them and wants to follow along. Also, it helps him practice all the things his body is telling him to practice right now: walking, coordination, etc. I hope that makes sense!
Thanks for posting this video. It helps me imagine how I might implement something similar for our 14-month-old son in the future (when he's steadier on his feet). Do you ever have Henry put water in Hoss's bowl? My son is very interested in this, so I'm hoping to figure out a way for him to do it (small watering can?).
Hi, Sarah! I just ordered a pitcher from Montessori Services. I find their prices very reasonable, and the size is perfect for young children. I will try and see if Henry can use it to fill Hoss's water bowl. Great idea!
I'm kind of overcome by that total display of complete CUTE. That is amazing...I don't think I've ever seen a little one so happily/easily comply!
Sara, what a great video, and what a great example of how young children can learn responsibility! :)
So sweet, I love that are you including him in so many practical life activities. I can't wait until we have a little one that can feed Drew :)
I am so impressed! I can't wait to implement Montessori in my home when there are little ones in the picture! Thank you for all of your resources and discussions on the topic - you (and Henry, Matt and Hoss) are such an inspiration!
